(In case you didn't get the memo; MORE SQUATS!)
Its been an amazing three months! There are so many stories and epic adventures. This weekend I have to decide which ones I will have time to share.
This week my friend left back to Columbia. Harrison was an amazing person, and exceptional athlete, hopefully I see him again! He went back to pursue a career as a parkour teacher. After becoming a certified teacher and athletic trainer he plans to start a gym in his hometown. Last weekend we went to Santa Cruz to jam it up with the rest of the bay area. As the jam so happened to be on 420, we got interesting results from bystanders. As we practiced a bunch of locals would sitting down and watch us. Every time we moved between spots people would ask us about "The Hill", wondering weather they are shutting down this year's 420 Celebration.
At some point towards the end we were practicing around the UCSC dorm buildings and there were almost as many spectators as traceurs. This spontaneously turned into a tricking session, people formed a giant circle and we all threw down flips and tricking runs. (pictures will be posted once I get a hold of them) Not much happened this week because I was injured, but this weekend Im building a bunch of parkour obstacles for my friend, and im gonna go on an adventure tomorrow, though i don't know what it is yet. This week I went to half moon bay twice. We found out that by law all Californian beaches are public so we went around exploring "private" beaches. On Tuesday we got lucky with the weather and it was really sunny and nice. That day we saw a beach from the highway and decided to climb down to it. We parked our car in a nearby street, and headed towards the beach. The path leading down the cliff had a no trespassing warning, and cautioned us about private property, so we went around and found a hidden path going alongside a creek that let out into the ocean. The beach we found was a gem. It was the most beautiful beach I'v been too so far (in California). Perfect soft sand stretched for miles, and the view of the ocean was gorgeous! This adventure served as another reason to explore protected areas. Ben brought his camera out to practice today. A bit of hooligan stuff from around Stanford, as well as a few pictures from the Gunn rooftops. I miss the clouds from last week... We had an incredibly fun trip! Me and Martin were able to meet all the most famous freerunners from around the world and train with the best of the best. The weekend consisted of training, filming and sleeping. We go to LA Friday morning and only slept for a few hours on the bus. We got picked up by Oleg and took a few hour nap at his house. He showed us around all the local spots he trains at and then dropped us off with Preston. While Oleg was off at work we explored a few schools, and some more spots. After Oleg got back from work we went roof climbing. There was a sick opportunity for some night photography at a nearby school so we took the opportunity. We set up the camera to take long exposure videos of the city and continued climbing. The next day we went to Santa Monica and filmed a bunch of videos at the beach. We were there with about 40 other freerunners. On Sunday was the day we were waiting for! The day of the Tempest Pro Takeover; a 5hour long gym session with guys from around the world. It was an amazing 5 hours of progression and training with parkour celebrities. We got our whole trip on footage and the video will be out soon... |
